The pattern in this lantern is called Rindo ( Japanese for Gentian flower), the Rindo pattern has also been seen in Aristocratic households since at least the Edo period 1615-1868.
This lantern takes close to a week to build, it has over 700 pieces making up the Rindo pattern alone.
A truly western take on a Japanese classic form, this Andon will fit into any decor scheme.
Made from North American hardwoods this piece will transcend the generations.
Washi paper over maple, the panels are removable, the L.E.D. light is set on a aluminum fixture, and is made from U.L. listed parts.

A Black Pine Bonsai we have, inspired this lamp. A double crown on this lamp, giving it a stately feel. Modern lines and an organic feel give this lamp purpose. Slab sides of Cherry, delicate looking keys guarding the miters, a hint of Japan at the base, and a Asa no ha panel covering the top combine to a very elegant whole.

The Torii is a a gateway denoting the sacred from the profane spaces in Shinto shrines. Typically painted vermillion or left unpainted our Torii Mirror bucks tradition (most respectfully - we hope) by using Claro Walnut and a oil finish to bring out the beauty of the Claro Walnut's grain.

The Asa no ha pattern is very dear to the Japanese, typically a childs first kimono will be made with the Asa no ha print. The sentiment being the child will grow up quickly and strong just like the plant.

These smaller andon are quite adaptable from table top to pendant usage, they will always have a pleasing affect.
Initially made from scraps of larger panels as a playful item. These andon have become a product line of their own. The frames are made from ¾ x ¾ inch material which allows one see to see the interplay between size and proportionality, with the larger three leaf pattern (andon #76) having a graceful look to the smallest (andon #7) having an almost brutalist appeal and andon #52 somewhere in between.
