Tozai Design
Quality kumiko zaiku work is always a sight to behold. The complex joinery, an innumerable number of really small parts, and a graceful frame to hold it all together to make an object of indelible beauty. Frequently heard in conversation “How is that done?” or “Who could do that kind of work?” and my favorite “That’s done with cnc machines right”. These are all conversations for a day light room.
It is night when a whole new image shows from the darkness. Shining invitingly from a front window or providing a welcome glow from a living room corner the kumiko zaiku andons offer a refinement and dignity not seen in a ordinary table lamp. This ob-jet d'art brings up the not conflicting feelings of consideration, sophistication, and luxury.
Traditional to modern these classic Japanese designs fit well into any design scheme.
