This is a table top lantern in Andon style of Japan.
The pattern in this lantern is called Goma ( Japanese for sesame flower), the goma pattern has been seen in Aristocratic households since at least the Edo period 1615-1868.
This lantern takes over a week to build, it has over 1400 pieces making up the Goma pattern alone.
A truly western take on a Japanese classic form, this Andon will fit into any decor scheme.
Made from North American hardwoods this piece will transcend the generations.
